,
a former cityhistorian, civic
activist, and genealogy expert, passed awayonApril 13,
2013, inAlexandria, Va. Shewas 92.
Dixonwas anAir Forcewifewho lived in France,
Germany, Panama, andonGuam aswell as in several states.
Her extensive travels tookher tofive continents. She lived
inWarner Robins, Ga., for 45 years prior tohermove to the
Hermitage retirement community in2010.
InGeorgia,Dixonwas active in community affairs,
serving as cityhistorian forWarner Robins and authoring an
updated cityhistory,
Warner Robins, the Second Twenty-Five
Years
. In1981, shewas namedWomanof Achievement by
theBusiness andProfessionalWomen’sClubofWarner Robins.
She retired from theGeorgiaDepartment of Labor and alsoworked as an actuary
and tax consultant. Dixon served as amember of theMacon (Georgia) Symphony
Board andwas amember of TrinityUnitedMethodist Church inWarner Robins. She
also supported animal protection efforts and lovedpursuingher familyhistory.
Dixonwas thefirstwinner of theprestigious four-year Phi BetaKappa Scholarship
toBirmingham-Southern, where she studiedmathematics. She remained an ardent
supporter of the college throughout her life.
“Mymom always lovedBirmingham-Southern,” saidher daughter,MaryDixon,
who resides inAlexandria. “I remember visits therewhen Iwas small, andhave
always had great respect for the college.”
Other survivors include two granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
