Inonly its second seasonof competition,
BSC’s Swimming andDivingprogramhad
abanner year. After a regular seasonwhere
personal and school records fell at nearly
everymeet, thePantherswent into the 2014
SAAChampionship as a top contender on
both themen’s andwomen’s sides of the
competition.
The championshipwas held at the
BirminghamCrossPlexNatatorium, just two
miles from campus. Heading into the third
andfinal dayof the event, both thePanther
men’s andwomen’s teams sat infirst place
in the team standings, having alreadywon
several individual championships, butwith
hopes of a team crown aswell.
Themen’s race camedown to thefinal
event of theday, withCentreCollege edging
thePanthers byonly eight points. But the
womenheldonto the lead towin the 2014
SAA title, finishingover 40points aheadof
second-placeRhodesCollege.
ThePantherswonplentyof individual
accolades. SophomoreHannahBusk
was theWomen’s Swimmer of theYear,
sophomoreDuncanBonneywas the
Men’s Swimmer of theYear, seniorCody
Spradlinwas theMaleDiver of theYear, and
freshman Scott Taylorwas the SAAMale
Newcomer of theYear.
All in all, BSCwon19 individual SAA
championships over the courseof the
weekend, and11of those set new SAA
recordswhile sevenwereNCAAB-cut times.
Bonneyqualified for theNCAA Swimming
andDivingNational Championshipheld
inMarch at the IndianaUniversity-Purdue
University IndianapolisNatatorium in
Indianapolis, Ind. He receivedHonorable
MentionAll-America accolades in
two events after finishing12th in the 200-
yard individualmedley and10th in the 100-
yardbreaststroke.

2014 SAAwomen’s swimming and diving champions
Gen. Charles C. Krulak jumped into the pool,
business attire and all, after the women’s swimming
and diving teamwon this year’s SAAChampionship.
