Cross country
ThePantherwomen’s cross country teamhad a
strong showing in2013, with thewomen earning
aNo. 9 ranking in theU.S. Track and Field/Cross
CountryCoaches Association South/Southeast
Regional inOctober. SophomoreKelseyHoldbrooks
was the topwomen’s runner in four of eight races
and freshmanElisePittmanfinishedfirst among
Panthers three times, including at the 2014 SAA
Championship and the 2014NCAA South/Southeast
Regional Championship. Pittmanwas 10th at the
SAAChampionshipwith a6K timeof 23:51.51,
earningAll-Conferencehonors, and34th at the
NCAARegional Championshipwith a6K timeof
23:42.24, earningAll-Region accolades. TheBSC
womenfinished fourth at the SAAChampionship
andninth (in afieldof 27 teams) at the regional.
SophomoreKatieAnnBass and freshman Shannon
Walsh also earnedAll-SAAhonors after placing
11th and13th respectively at the conference
championship.
Volleyball
The volleyball teamhad anotherwinning season,
going21-9, including a9-0 start to the season. The
Panthers alsobecame an interesting footnote in the
NCAA recordbookduring the 2013 SAAVolleyball
Championship. In thefirst-roundmatch against
Millsaps, the second set, usuallyplayed to25points,
waswonbyMillsaps by a scoreof 46-44, setting
anewNCAA record for points scored in a single
set. Senior outsidehitter AlexBothe earned First-
TeamAll-SAAhonors and junior right sideKathleen
Pfitzer and sophomore liberoLaurenBedford earned
HonorableMentionhonors.
