Soccer
Themen’s soccer teamput together oneof thebest starts
inprogramhistory, going6-0 tobegin the fall season.
ThePanthers entered theNCAARegional rankings at
10th, thefirst regional ranking for theprogram at the
Division III level, and then entered theD3soccer.com
national rankings for thefirst time, coming in at 22nd
in the coaches’ poll. They ended the seasonwith a9-8-
1mark and a3-4 SAA record. Sixplayerswerenamed
to theAll-Conference team, with senior defenderCory
Gonzalez earning First-Teamhonors. Seniormidfielder
Brooks Busby and senior forwardTobiasWinterwere
named to the SecondTeam, while junior goalkeeper
JonasHeidrich, senior defender JeremyEvans, and
juniormidfielder Johannes LoefflerwerenamedAll-SAA
HonorableMention. Evans,Winter, and junior Ryan
Deveikis also earnedCoSIDACapitalOneAcademic
All-District honors, andWinter andEvanswerenamed
to theNational SoccerCoaches Associationof America
Scholar All-RegionTeam.
Cross country
FreshmanChris Roberts led themen’s cross country
team, placingfirst on the team in sixof eight races, while
seniorChristianClesi led the team in two races,
including theNCAA South/Southeast Regional
Championship. Themenwere sixth at the SAA
Championship and17th (in afieldof 24) at the
regional.
Basketball
Themen’s basketball program continued its
traditionofwinning seasons once again in2013-14,
highlightedby junior Larry Thomas being voted the
2014 SAAPlayer of theYear; he also earned a spot
on theAll-Conference First Team. ThePanthers
put together a17-10 record andwere 10-4 against
conferenceopponents. Theyupset two ranked
opponents—No. 17GuilfordCollege inDecember
andNo. 22CentreCollege in February—and
finished tied for second in the SAA regular season
standings. BSC earned the second seed in the 2014
SAAChampionship, hostedby top-seededCentre,
andwon thefirst-round game against seventh-seeded
Hendrix, but lost to third-seededOglethorpeby
twopoints in the semifinals. SeniorGriffin Schamp
was voted to theAll-Conference SecondTeam and
sophomoreRossWelch earnedHonorableMention
honors. Thomas alsohit a careermilestone in January
as hepassed1,000 career points as a junior. He
ended the seasonwith1,182 career points and sits at
ninthon the all-time scoring list heading intohis next
season. He also received a trifectaof honors inMarch,
beingnamed to theNational Associationof Basketball
Coaches (NABC) First-TeamAll-SouthDistrict,NABC
Third-TeamAll-America, andD3hoops.com First
TeamAll-SouthRegion.
