“We are pleased that U.S. News & World Report has not only included us in its ranking of the best liberal arts colleges in the country but has moved us up in the rankings,” said BSC President Daniel B. Coleman. “In this year like no other, BSC continues to provide a stellar education and a meaningful campus experience. We are especially proud of our students as they continue to make every effort to excel academically during a difficult time.”

The guide lists BSC at #130 – tied with five other liberal arts colleges. U.S. News & World Report included 221 institutions in its prestigious “national liberal arts college” rankings. There are about 500 liberal arts colleges in the United States.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, now in their 36th year, are considered the “gold standard” of higher education rankings, examined 1,452 degree-granting institutions in the United States on 17 measures of academic quality. Its methodology, which usually changes annually, includes a variety of metrics, including student retention and graduation rates, faculty resources, and social mobility. All of the 2021 Best Colleges rankings methodologies are accessible at www.usnews.com/collegemeth.

BSC also is one of 59 colleges included on the 2021 U.S. News & World Report — A+ Schools for B Students (National Liberal Arts Colleges) list.

“That recognition is why BSC is truly a college that changes lives,” said Dr. David M. Eberhardt, Vice President for Student Development. “Students who are often overshadowed in high school can find and grow into their potential here. They thrive on the Hilltop.”

U.S. News creates nearly 50 different types of numerical rankings and lists to guide students in their college search. U.S. News also ranks colleges and universities in other areas, such as Most Innovative Schools, Best Colleges for Veterans, and Top Public Schools.

The “Best Colleges 2021” guidebook will be available in bookstores on Oct. 27.
