First-Year Housing

Your room is more than just a place to lay your head; it's a place to study, hang out with friends, and make memories that will last a lifetime. All first-year students are housed in our traditional residence halls: Cullen Daniel, Hanson, Margaret Daniel, and New Men's. Living in a close-knit community like this teaches you more than you can imagine about cooperating with other people, and that's an important part of your preparation for the future.

Move-in Day is the exciting beginning of your adventure at BSC and one of our favorite days of the year! When you arrive on campus, you will check in and receive your key before heading to your residence hall to move in! Don't worry about carrying your things - there will be faculty, staff, and current students waiting for you to help unload your car and carry your things to your room! You will receive more information about Move-in Day during Summer Orientation and via your BSC email. To learn more about Move-in Day, click here.

Residence Hall Visitation Options

While there are many areas across campus where students may gather after hours to study or socialize, the residence halls are a hub of activity at night. In our first-year residence halls, Birmingham-Southern has two options for visitors devised to accommodate each student's living habits and personal preferences. You'll indicate your visitation option preference on the Housing Application; if you have a preferred roommate, both of you must list the same visitation option detailed below to be matched.

Option 10-1-2 - Limited Visitation
Students may entertain guests between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday. These times are maximum limits and students are encouraged to discuss times within these parameters for which they plan to have guests in the room with their roommate. A violation of visitation option would occur when any guest of the opposite sex exceeds the 1:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. limit or enters the restricted building or floor before 10:00 a.m.

Option 24 - Open Visitation
Students may entertain guests with the ordinary freedom of private living. There are no restrictions on when opposite-gender visitors may be present. Students are encouraged to discuss times they plan to have guests in the room with their roommates. Students living under Option 24 are strictly prohibited from cohabitation with a non-roommate.
