Executive director, Magic City Smooth Jazz
Lockhart founded Magic City Smooth Jazz,
a nonprofit dedicated to exposing residents
to great jazz, and launched its Jazz in the
Park series in 2010 with five concerts
around the city. It now hosts about 25
concerts a year across the state.
“The most recent growth of Birmingham
has surprised me somewhat since it’s
always been known as a second-tier city
in terms of population. However, what
doesn’t surprise me is all the attractions
that draw people to this city—all the
great medical research and technology
advancements, safe communities in which
to live, quality schools to choose from, and
of course, a thriving arts community.”
