Fiske GuideCollege included in 2017 Fiske Guide
Birmingham-Southern College has been named to the list of fewer than 50 “best buy” colleges and universities in the 2017 Fiske Guide to Colleges. The guide, released July 1, calls BSC “a good choice for students who want to make a difference in the world.”

BSC announces new Alumni Board president, members
Birmingham-Southern College has restructured its Alumni Board, adding chapters around the country to reflect the broad representation of BSC graduates.

Retrospective exhibition features works from artist’s career
From Aug. 26 through Sept. 22, the Durbin Gallery presents “Bob Shelton - Retrospective,” celebrating the art of BSC Professor Emeritus of Art Bob Shelton and his 40 years of creativity. Opening reception is from 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 26. It is free and open to the public.

New BSC students to serve community
More than 400 Birmingham-Southern College students, BSC President Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith, and several staff members will participate in service projects around the Birmingham area on Tuesday, Aug. 23 as the last step of New Student Orientation.

BSC moves to test-optional admission
The college is moving to a test-optional application for prospective students, joining the growing ranks of nationally ranked colleges and universities to do so.

Inside Higher Education, an online publication focused on college and university topics, featured BSC’s year-long faculty discussions about the changing higher education environment, using it as an example of how collaborative approaches work. Those discussions led to proposals from faculty--several of which may become new programs this year.

BSC names executive-in-residence in entrepreneurship
Jennifer Skjellum, president of the nonprofit TechBirmingham and co-founder of TechAlabama, has been selected as Birmingham-Southern College’s first McCain Executive-in-Residence in Entrepreneurship.
