BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern College chapter of the Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) National Honor Society for first-year students has been awarded the 2017 Alpha Silver award by the national organization.

The membership award is presented to chapters that saw a notable increase in membership during a single year. The BSC chapter inducted 80 percent of invited students into its chapter during the 2016-17 academic year.

ALD’s mission is “to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year in institutions of higher education, to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society.” Students who are inducted into the honor society must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of a semester.

“We are so excited to be recognized by the national Alpha Lambda Delta organization and are proud to have such a remarkable group of young men and women representing BSC,” said Katie Kauffman ’03, director of Exploration Term and contract learning at BSC, who serves as ALD chapter advisor.

Fifty-eight BSC students will be initiated into the ALD chapter at BSC at its 2017 fall induction ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. in Hill Recital Hall.
