BSC, Bevill State Community College partner to smooth transition for transfers

Oct. 20, 2017

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) and Bevill State Community College (BSCC) have signed an agreement that will allow Bevill State students to earn their bachelor’s degrees at BSC starting this academic year.

The two institutions have signed an articulation agreement ensuring that students who have earned associate’s degrees at Bevill State can seamlessly continue their education at BSC. The contract establishes that those who have earned an associate’s degree in arts and sciences will have fulfilled Birmingham-Southern’s general education requirements with the exception of a class in writing reinforcement and a capstone course.

“We are so excited to partner with Bevill State and to welcome their graduates to join the Birmingham-Southern community,” said BSC President Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith. “This agreement will make the transfer process more efficient and effective so that students can complete their bachelor’s degrees in the personalized, transformative environment we offer.”

Statistics show that as many as half of all college students complete at least some of their academic work at two-year colleges. Articulation agreements outline the course requirements for degree work and how credits will transfer.

“Bevill State Community College is committed to the success of all of our students. We welcome partnerships such as the one we have created with Birmingham-Southern. It allows for a seamless transition for our academic transfer students with intentions to attend BSC,” stated Interim BSCC President Dr. Kim Ennis.
