BSC announces 2017-18 class of Panther Partners

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College is pleased to announce the 64 students and Birmingham-area professionals who make up the 2017-18 class of the Panther Partnerships Mentoring Program.

Through this intensive, structured program, mentors help BSC students achieve individualized goals in pursuit of their educational and career ambitions. Students of all majors and interests are eligible to apply for the program and are selected through a competitive process. Mentors are volunteers who offer their time and expertise to guide the next generation of business and community leaders.

The 2017-18 Panther Partners are:

  • Allafi Amin-Bashier, a junior biology and secondary education double major, who will be mentored by Marla Hines, Earth and space science teacher at Vestavia Hills High School.
  • Will Buser, a sophomore accounting major, who will be mentored by Courtney Morris, college recruiting coordinator at Warren Averett.
  • Carrie Deese, a senior psychology major, who will be mentored by Christy Gragg, licensed professional counselor at Grayson & Associates.
  • Joe DeLozier, a sophomore business major, who will be mentored by Michael Dean ’05, assistant athletics director at the University of Alabama.
  • Kourtni Douglas, a sophomore political science major, who will be mentored by Mary Boehm, member-elect of the Birmingham Board of Education-District 3.
  • Maggie DuVall, a junior accounting major pursuing a distinction in leadership studies, who will be mentored by Scott Berte ’94, lead market partner at Dixon Hughes Goodman.
  • Matt Flaherty, a sophomore economics major, who will be mentored by Clete Walker ’90, CEO of Vituro Health.
  • Calvin Griffin, a sophomore business major, who will be mentored by Shannon Shriver, associate general agent of One South Financial Group.
  • Sarah Hale, a senior global and comparative studies major, who will be mentored by Allison Grizzle, director of organizational development at Starnes Media.
  • Desi Hall, a junior religion major, who will be mentored by Rev. Jennifer Sanders, pastor of Beloved Community Church.
  • Abbi Hallman, a sophomore urban environmental studies major, who will be mentored by Keith Johnston, managing attorney at Southern Environmental Law.
  • Lindsay Higgins, a junior biology major, who will be mentored by K.B. Hudspeth, nurse practitioner at UAB Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Graham Huguley, a sophomore business major, who will be mentored by Margaret Ann Pyburn ’84, executive vice president at Cobbs Allen.
  • Paul Krane, a senior political science major, who will be mentored by Dane Peterson ’97, director of theatre arts at Indian Springs School.
  • Matt Lovell, a junior accounting major pursuing a distinction in leadership studies, who will be mentored by Jeffrey Krogsgard ’06, controller at Brasfield & Gorrie.
  • Jenni Moon, a senior biology major, who will be mentored by Jody St. Clair, a physician assistant at Princeton Baptist Medical Center.
  • Ashu Mukkavilli, a junior economics major, who will be mentored by Courtney French ’95, partner of Fuston, Petway & French.
  • Tatiana Neuman, a junior business major, who will be mentored by Molly Harrison, senior vice president of services at Daxko.
  • My Nguyen, a senior accounting major, who will be mentored by Afif Kanafani, assistant federal security director of Transportation Security Administration.
  • Shivangi Patel, a junior biology major, who will be mentored by Dr. Howard Day ’83, optometrist at Day Eye Care.
  • Melissa Pittman, a junior collaborative education major, who will be mentored by Elizabeth Griffith, medical social worker at the UAB Sparks Clinic.
  • Caleb Riggs, a senior biology major, who will be mentored by Tamicka Jones, nurse in the ER of UAB Hospital.
  • Samantha Salmon, a sophomore biology major, who will be mentored by Dr. Chris Shaver, physician at Birmingham Gastroenterology Associates.
  • Shelby Soares, a sophomore political science major, who will be mentored by Judge Teresa Pulliam ’80, criminal judge in the Circuit Court of Alabama.
  • Christopher Sucic, a sophomore accounting major, who will be mentored by Neil Segars of Segars Associates.
  • Leah Thomas, a sophomore sociology major, who will be mentored by Aisha Thorn, counselor at Pelham Park Middle School.
  • Andrew Triplett, a junior history major, who will be mentored by Paul Bolus ’85, attorney at Bradley.
  • Marjorie Ward, a junior psychology major, who will be mentored by Jody Bicking, partner of ACHEV.
  • Leah White,a junior biology major, who will be mentored by Cassandra Winston-Griffin, nurse practitioner at UAB.
  • Burk Williams,a sophomore business major, who will be mentored by Eric Housh ’98, chief marketing officer of TicketBiscuit.
  • Bricara Williams,a junior psychology major, who will be mentored by Amy Templeton ’82, president and CEO of the McWane Science Center.
  • Graham Yarboro,a sophomore business major, who will be mentored by Brian Wilson, senior vice president of Corporate Human Resources at EBSCO.
