Baccalaureate

Friday, May 26, 11 a.m.
Canterbury United Methodist Church
Speaker: Becca Stevens
Baccalaureate--a special service of prayers and song recognizing the graduates and their families--has long been part of Commencement Weekend. This special event acknowledges the importance of faith in our academic community and ritualistically marks the ending of college from a religious perspective. Baccalaureate is rooted in BSC's historical foundations in the Methodist tradition but is inclusive and welcoming of other faiths. Becca Stevens is an author, speaker, Episcopal priest, social entrepreneur, founder and president of Thistle Farms, a social enterprise run by women healing from prostitution, trafficking and addiction. Find out more about our speaker at http://www.beccastevens.org.

Capping Ceremony

Friday, May 26, 3 p.m.
Bill Battle Coliseum
Speaker: TBD
This unique Birmingham-Southern tradition, hosted by the BSC Alumni Association, allows each graduating senior to choose a special person--a parent, grandparent, other relative, professor, mentor, or friend--to "cap" them by placing the flat-topped mortarboard upon his or her head. For questions about capping, contact the Office of Alumni Affairs at (205) 226-4912.
