Herb and Ellie Sklenar Center for International Programs

International student

The Sklenar Center for International Programs (SCIP) provides support for international education initiatives on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College. These initiatives include study abroad, overseas internships, faculty and staff international opportunities through Fulbright and other travel grants, as well as global engagement initiatives on-campus that highlight people, cultures, languages, and global issues of importance to students pursuing a liberal arts education at BSC.

Our mission is to help students develop a deep appreciation for the diversity of human experience and to seek a global perspective beyond their studies. Much of our success is due to collaboration with faculty, staff, community members and alumni who share our commitment to internationalization.

The Sklenar Center for International Programs facilitates the study abroad programs outside of E-Term.Generation Study Abroad

BSC is a commitment partner of Generation Study Abroad, a national initiative to double the number of U.S. students who study abroad by the year 2020. Click on the Generation Study Abroad button to learn more about it.

Thanks to Generation Study Abroad, all BSC students have free e-book access to A Student Guide to Studying Abroad through May 2016. Be sure to get your copy before you leave for the summer.

Study Abroad
The Sklenar Center encourages the development of globally-engaged students through advising, preparation and support for study abroad and exchange programs, international internship and research opportunities, and interaction with international students and scholars on campus.

Global Engagement Initiatives
Global Engagement Initiatives provide opportunities for students and the campus community to explore global issues and to engage with cross-cultural perspectives, including intercultural programs and training and celebrations of diversity and culture. The Center sponsors International Education Week, organizes campus lectures to address global issues, and provides administrative support for student organizations with an intercultural mission. Anne Ledvina serves as Fulbright Scholar Liaison for BSC faculty and staff.
