Brief Career Background:
Dr. Russell has ten years of experience in the elementary classroom. She served as the curriculum coordinator for an Early Reading First grant project at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she also served as adjunct faculty. She has taught for Athens State University and has been at BSC since 2007.

EPY 223 Human Growth and Development
Theories of human growth and development to help students understand the mental, social, and emotional patterns of development from conception to late adulthood. Laboratory required. Fall, Spring.ED 210 Curriculum Design
Introduces the principles of curriculum design and development including learning theory, instructional strategies, lesson planning, classroom management, assessment approaches, and organization of curricula found in public schools. Prerequisite: at least one year of college coursework. Spring.ED 317 Methods of Teaching Social Studies
Provides teacher candidates with philosophy, content knowledge, techniques, and materials to assist them in the teaching of social studies in grades K-6. Responsible citizenship and the importance of multi-cultural education is stressed. Attention will be given to teaching children with special needs. Laboratory required. Prerequisite: admission to Teacher Education Program. Fall.ED 318 Children's Literature
Provides a framework to make appropriate decisions regarding the planning, implementation, and the assessment of literacy instruction using children's literature in the elementary classroom in all disciplines. Laboratory required. Prerequisite: admission to Teacher Education Program. Fall.ED 324 Methods of Teaching Science and Health
